The High Street

High St Oxford

The noblest street in Europe is the High,
they say.  Walk slowly down the sloping curve
from Carfax to the Plain. Admire the Church
(St. Mary’s). count the cloistered colleges.
Watch subfusc’d students scurry to the Schools
to demonstrate their learning and research
and prove they’re new Duns Scotuses – not fools!
Linger on Magdalen Bridge to scan the sky,
the river and the City. Oxford is
a gem – to study, cherish and preserve.
